History
Born from the lagoons
Tahitian pearls are born in the turquoise lagoons of French Polynesia, in the heart of the South Pacific. They are cultivated in the Pinctada margaritifera, a black-lipped oyster whose dark nacre gives the pearl its unique color.
Tahitian pearl farming, developed from the 1960s, has become a pillar of the Polynesian economy—and a recognized expertise worldwide.
Character
The Play of Reflections
Contrary to popular belief, Tahitian pearls are never truly black: they reveal subtle, shifting shades—forest green, abyssal blue, silvery grey, deep aubergine, or that famous "peacock" sheen with intertwining greens and violets.
It is this deep orient and unpredictable color palette that makes each Tahitian pearl absolutely unique.
Porchet Selection
Porchet’s exacting standards
We work directly with Tahitian producers from the Tuamotu and Gambier archipelagos, who practice pearl farming that respects their lagoon.
Each pearl is graded according to official Tahitian criteria (shape, luster, surface, size), and only the most beautiful are selected for our creations — in strands, as pendants, or as exceptional pieces.
