History
The Legacy of Mikimoto
It was in Japan, at the end of the 19th century, that Kokichi Mikimoto developed the modern pearl farming technique. The Pinctada fucata martensii oysters, known as akoya, then became the birthplace of an industry that would revolutionize global jewelry.
Since 1928, Maison Porchet has meticulously selected the most beautiful akoya for its creations, perpetuating expertise passed down through three generations.
Character
A Unique Light
What distinguishes the akoya is, first and foremost, its luster: a deep, almost metallic light that seems to emanate from within the pearl. Its mirror-smooth surface reflects the surroundings with a clarity that few other pearls can match.
Natural colors range from pure white to cream, sometimes enhanced with subtle pink, silver, or golden overtones. Each shade is unique.
Porchet Selection
Porchet’s exacting standards
Our Akoya pearls come exclusively from the most renowned Japanese farms, mainly in Ago and Uwajima bays. Each pearl is meticulously inspected according to our strict criteria: shape, luster, surface, color, and orient.
Only pearls meeting our standards become part of our Porchet signature necklaces, hoop earrings, and long necklaces.
